Join us for Dr. Aaron Ellrich’s talk, “Changing Tastes and Continuities at Colonial St. Augustine Fl, 1700—1821.” Dr. Ellrich is currently a postdoctoral fellow for the Florida Museum of Natural History’s (FLMNH) Historical Archaeology program. He received his MA in Museum Studies (2016) and PhD in Anthropology (2023) from the University of Florida. Growing up in Virginia, Aaron was drawn to archaeology during his undergraduate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University where he majored in Anthropology and Art History. His passion for museums and archaeology includes fieldwork experience in Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina, Alabama, Virginia, and Tanzania.
In his talk, Aaron presents the results of his collections-based study of four St. Augustine houselots across the eighteenth-century Spanish I (1700-1763), British (1764-1783), and Spanish II (1784-1821) periods. Central themes in his talk include questions of taste, continuity, and change in colonial St. Augustine material assemblages, the challenges as well as prospects of collections-based studies, and ongoing web-based initiatives through the FLMNH’s Historical Archaeology program.
SAAA lectures are free and open to the public! This event is co-sponsored by the Florida Public Archaeology Network and Flagler College. Meetings are held in the Tiffany Room at Flagler College.
